At the end of the Oregon Trail in the 1850s, at the beginning of new possibilities, lies the town of Corvallis in Oregon territory. Land around here is rich and fertile, and granted free to settlers who apply for a land claim. Long as they can farm it and keep it clear of the Injun menace. Around that land, there's trees for felling and woods rich in life for hunting and trapping - and more than a few men that ain't willing to live by the rule of the town and the marshal.
For those less adventurous, the town's well enough set up. Right next to the river where the steamboats bring in as many people as the wagons, miners headed down to the coast for gold panning, and all manner of folk besides. There's a church set up one end of the town, and most of the rest of the buildings settled around an open dust square. (You might want to keep clear of that square at noon each day, unless you've got an appointment to be there.)
The saloon nestles up cosy to the cathouse, opposite the respectability of the hotel and the town hall that gets used as a school five days of the week. Then there's the smithy, the laundry, and several stores, from the general to the specific. There's even a small newspaper office tucked in there. And opposite end of town to the church lies the jail and marshal's office, though you're more like to find the jail empty and the marshal in the saloon, or out at the fort. Soldiers set up a few miles out of town, ostensibly to keep an eye on the Injun situation, but they ain't been seen to do a deal of fighting of late.
Welcome to Corvallis. Sure hope you'll settle in fine.
(historical note: while the mods are willing to allow a certain amount of flexibility for the ease of roleplay, please remember this is 19th century frontier settlement, and the characters may not feel real friendly towards the natives, or folks that ain't white. This is no reflection of the feelings and intentions of the mods, the writers, or the players. There's no slavery in Corvallis, but that's mostly because according to the agreements of the territory, Oregon's all white settlers. Officially.)
